Pneumonia
I have pneumonia. Isn't it against the law that teachers or mommies cannot get pneumonia during Halloween week? :) Dr. B. put me on an inhaler and a 3 day Z-pack. I must get better before tomorrow. Maddy has her first Halloween parade where the elementary children parade through all of the primary classrooms, Elly has been invited to a Halloween party, and daddy will be around to take the girls trick or treating with me! This may sound like nothing, but, being a football coach, he misses out quite often. My hydrocodone is kicking in...aww, sweet relief, off to bed...

I should have stayed in bed...
You know it's going to be a crummy day when 1.) Mommy is still sick after 3 days. 2.) The dog vomits in mommy & daddy's room before 7am. 3.) Elly pees all over mommy & daddy's bathroom (while sitting on the toilet!) 4.) When mommy finally has the girls loaded up and ready to go...the van will not start! 5.) Daddy is at a breakfast meeting and is unavailable to help with the van. So mommy (who is sick, remember?) has to trudge all over the neighborhood in the cold to find a neighbor who can help. Thankfully, at the 3rd house, I found someone. Thank you, Mr. Massey! We wouldn't have made it without you!

a tooth update
We went to Growing Smiles this morning and Elly was such a brave girl! I was so proud of her. She had x-rays taken and it showed that the nerve was not exposed or damaged (which explains the lack of pain). So, Dr. Kelli patched it up with some resin and she is as good as new. It took about 10 minutes...
A dental emergency!
So, today is pumpkin patch day for Elly! Very exciting times...daddy took the morning off to go with her, I made yummy pumpkin chocolate chip cookies for a special snack, and her favorite friend, Reese, is riding with her. Elly was wearing her red rain boots (because the patch is oh, so muddy!) and fell on the sidewalk running onto the school playground this morning. She skinned her nose and chin AND half of her front tooth is missing!! She appears to be in no pain but we have an appointment at 11:40am with Dr. Kelli. I am so bummed!

Jammin' Jacks
This afternoon, we had a fundraiser for our school. Some local musicians (Maddy's teacher, Mr. Joe played!) and bands (like Truckstop Honeymoon) came and played on our campus. There were a few rides for the kiddos, lots of yummy food, and a one mile fun run to celebrate the life of a R. student, Jack, killed in an automobile accident in 2001. The weather was amazing and we all had such a great time...
Kevin took this picture of Maddy's legs and I think it is hysterical...maybe I am just tired! :)
A picture of the small Ferris wheel...
Elly following Maddy into the Ferris wheel...
Maddy loved hers but Elly was more interested in daddy's chocolate waffle cone...
The girls enjoyed feeding the catfish in R. pond...
...the catfish were happy, too.

Elly on the elementary playground.
Elly playing with Charlotte, Jack's sister, who was born 2 days after Elly in August of 2005. Charlotte's big sister, Katherine, is a kindergartener in Elly's class.
Up they go...

The girls got snow cones...
Sally the tortoise lives on the primary playground near R. pond.
Maddy rode the train with two of her friends while Keith, one of the school's founders, drove. Keith drove the train all afternoon around R. pond and Mt. R. Elly and I sat near the back...
The obstacle course.
Climbing up the Titanic Slide...I think the girls enjoyed this the most!
A better view of the Titanic Slide...pretty high, huh?
Guess who loved it the most?
Yep, Elly!
Elly rode the Ferris wheel with her best friend, Reese. She got a hug from her while waiting in line.
After the Ferris wheel, they did some jammin' to some music. Okay, they ran around in circles...
...and had a great time falling down! Elly was a muddy mess by the time we left!
Maddy showed us some tricks on the elementary playground.
Here is a flashback picture of Charlotte (on the left) and Elly (on the right) at Maddy's 4th birthday party. The baby girls slept the whole time while their big sisters celebrated. So sweet...

Halloween Bats
While our Halloween brownies were baking, we made Halloween bats. They turned out cute. I mean...spooky. :)
Here they are flying around our house! The girls even put one in each of their rooms. We'll see if Elly sleeps with hers in her room all night...
Guess which big man also sticks out his tongue in concentration? Ha! Sorry, Kevin!
Maddy likes to draw bat mouths with fangs...
She even drew Elly's for her... :)
This bat looks a little cross-eyed! :)
Halloween Brownies
Today, Kevin and Maddy enjoyed a day at home. Kevin finished up some homework for MCC and Maddy rested so she can return to school tomorrow. I came home early with Elly so Kevin could go to football practice. The girls and I made some Halloween brownies...

Don't I have some great helpers? I will try to post some pics of the girls enjoying their brownies later...

TV Dinner
On Friday nights, daddy coaches football. I always try to do something special with the girls on Friday nights, sometimes we go out to eat, sometimes we take a bubble bath and stay up later (8:30pm!), and once or twice, we try to make it out to a home football game. This past Friday(after Elly's motrin kicked in), I let the girls eat their chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese sandwich in our living room.
Wondering what has their attention?
Thank goodness for good ol' Strawberry Shortcake!

I've made a change...
...in the music! Two very special people to us are really struggling right now. I dedicate these 4 songs to you both... Some have told me that my faith has never been tested but, if and when it is, these songs will be on my ipod. Okay, they already are...except "All That I Can Say" because it is not available and is out of print, so to speak. Enjoy!
PS~We love you, Uncle Randy and Aunt Cindy. We are in fervent prayer for God to heal you.
Elly's Belly
Doesn't everyone do this while going to the bathroom?
This will be a better week. This will be...
So, Elly woke up Sat. am feeling great! She slept all night in her bed and was sweaty because her fever broke in the night! Yay! Maddy went to bed with a headache but woke up fine. We went and had our family pictures taken and I think they turned out GREAT! :) Can't wait to see them. After, daddy went to the KU game and I took the girls to the Halloween store to look for Dorothy shoes. Yes, Maddy has decided to be Dorothy again and all she needs are new ruby red slippers. She wanted to be Annie but I could not find a red Annie dress online or on ebay for less than $50 bucks. Plus, she would have needed black shoes (which are also proving to be challenging...can NO ONE make plain mary jane style shoes to sell in the stores...must they have hannah montana or hello, kitty or high school musical on them? Lord, that is another blog!) and a curly, red wig. I was not willing to spend $100 for one day of fun. Sorry, Mad. Anyway, the Halloween store had shoes in her size but they were heels and did not look as cute or as comfy as the ones I purchased online last year. So, I ordered her slippers yesterday and they have already been shipped and were 20% off! Yay! About $3 cheaper than if I would have bought them at the Halloween store. And speaking of the Halloween store...YIKES! Very gory, very inappropriate costumes... I kept telling the girls to look away, keep walking, it's just pretend, etc... Next time I will go alone. They even had fake b**bs there which Maddy thought was hilarious and I zoomed the girls past it and ignored her comments. AHHH!!! Anyway, I digress...Maddy started feeling pretty crummy by the time we got home. She spent the afternoon in bed and playing quietly in her room. We called the doctor and got her an antibiotic. Maddy's fever came last night. Hopefully, we caught it early. Daddy will stay home with her tomorrow and I will come home early so daddy can go to football practice.

what. a. week.
It has been a crummy week at our house. Elly was sent home on Tuesday with a fever. It raged all night and Kevin took her to the doctor on Wednesday morning. She has strep throat. Ugh. We were glad to get her on an antibiotic hoping it would get her back up and going. But... Thursday~raging fever. Friday~raging fever...at one point it was 104.6 degrees. You read that right...104.6 degrees. What the heck? Our doctor wants to wait it out. Says we are on the right track. Whatever. (Can you tell my sleep has been interrupted this week?) I think she needs a stronger antibiotic. She is on amoxil. 1 1/2 tsp. twice a day. That is a lot of medicine to get down a child who gags after it even touches her lips or if she smells it. Did I mention she HATES this medicine? Tonight, she projectile vomited all of the amoxil I had just given her in addition to her dinner. That was fun giving her a second dose of amoxil. At one point, I put down the measuring cup to give her a drink of water and Elly actually grabbed the medicine and poured it DOWN THE DRAIN! Elly is good at expressing how she really feels about things. I did some research on the internet tonight and found some articles claiming that amoxil and penicillin don't do a good job of getting rid of strep throat. Those drugs don't kill the strep "bugs" and they linger in the child's body causing the child to be sick off and on for months. The child is also at risk of getting a stronger, more resistant strain down the road. That news makes a mom happy. Looks like I will be calling the doctor AGAIN tomorrow. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that Maddy does not come down with this.
PS~Did I mention that we are supposed to have family pictures tomorrow?

a gymnastics party for Elly...
Elly went to her first "friend" birthday party this afternoon! It was scheduled at the same time that I was helping host a double baby shower, so Kevin took Elly and I took Maddy with me. He got some great photos...
Here is Elly with her "best" friend, Reese (in the little skirt)...they love to spin on the tire swings at school.

Notice the cute ponytail...
...that is now missing!
I think she had a great time, don't you?
