Festival of Trees

The Festival of Trees was so beautiful this year. This is a tradition that really kicks off the holiday season for us. :) We ate at Noodles & Company and then walked over to L. Hall for the Festival.
Different organizations decorate Christmas Trees to be auctioned off for Charity. The girls picked out some of their favorites & we snapped a photo in front of them. Check out Elly's face...she looks like she is having a GREAT time. ;)
This "tree" was made out of a Diaper Genie with size 1,2, & 3 diapers surrounding it. How awesome is that!
It was so CUTE! The girls both liked this santa.
A K-State tree even found its' way in... ;)
A tree inspired by the game "Candyland."
I LOVED this gingerbread tree. I think I have outgrown my snowman collection & want to start collecting gingerbread now. They are so cute. :)
A picture from the balcony. Isn't it beautiful? Love this. Downtown L. is so lovely this year. If I closed my eyes when we stepped out that night...it reminded me of Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Such happy memories there...thanks, babe. :)

We always kick off the Holiday season with a visit to the Festival of Trees. :) This year we ate at Noodle & Company before and then walked over to L. Hall. I will post more pictures soon...
PS~ Twinkle is Back! He was here when we returned home from Thanksgiving. ;)

good-bye tonsils.

I have not updated in awhile. I have just been swamped at school, with the girls, & I feel like I'm still recovering from Maddy's birthday weekend and then Halloween. I will post pictures of Halloween soon, but wanted to fill you in on the fact that we have one person in our home with no tonsils now. Maddy had her tonsils & adenoids taken out on Tuesday 11.3. I was freaked out. But, I was the calm, cool, & collected mommy that Maddy needed me to be. :) Her surgery went so well. She took her bear, Jessica, with her. Maddy was so brave. I was so proud of her. :)

We had to be at the surgery center by 7:30. Her surgery was scheduled for 8:30am. I took Maddy while Kevin took Elly to school. The plan was for him to meet us before the surgery, but the traffic was so crazy that he missed her by about 10 minutes. :( Dr. S, the surgeon, was so kind. He went over everything with me in detail, the anesthesiologist came in and told Maddy they were going to play a game called "Space Woman." He told her she would get to wear a mask and if she felt like closing her eyes that would be okay. They inserted her IV after she was under. Thank goodness. That girl does NOT like needles. ;)

The doctor offered a time of silent prayer which I so appreciated and then they wheeled her away. She was able to wear her own clothes for the surgery and was allowed to take her bear with her, too. :) Her bear even got an ID bracelet with her name on it. Ha! They took such good care of Maddy. I was so impressed.

Afterwards, when she was waking in the recovery room, they called us back. She was groggy and trembling (a side effect of the anesthesia wearing off). She said she couldn't breathe, but the nurse said she had good lung sounds & gave her some Demerol. Maddy slept a little and had a grape slushy. About 9:45am, they gave her some Tylenol with Codeine and it made her a little nauseous so they gave her a drug to counteract that feeling. She felt good after that and had some grape juice. She was released at 11am. Can you believe that? It was a quick morning. The photo above is her getting ready to be wheeled down to the parking lot. Our fabulous nurse would not get in the picture even though she was adorable. She also has 2 year old twins named...Madeline & Ella. How crazy is that?

Maddy continues to do very well. She has had no complications & no bleeding. Yay! She has been home since Tuesday and is going to school for a 1/2 day tomorrow. She may also do a 1/2 day on Tuesday. I might bring her to my classroom to rest in the afternoon. That is one of the true privileges of teaching at the same school. :)

8 is GREAT!

My firstborn is 8 years old today. Good grief! When did this happen? She has turned into this spunky, sassy girl! I adore her. :) Happy Birthday, Maddy! You are my sunshine.

2 weeks...

Only 2 weeks left until Maddy's Halloween birthday party. I have the party itinerary planned, guests have been invited, & we have Elly's Halloween costume. We are still working on Maddy's... We are starting to buy things for the party... I laid it all out today & realized I still have a bit more left to buy. This weekend I am making a pumpkin-shaped cake & icing it to see if I really can do it. Kevin & the Wade girls are excited to be my taste testers. ;) It was a cold morning and the girls were begging for hot chocolate so I made my favorite breakfast...hot chocolate with toast! My grandma Jean used to make this for me when I was a little girl. It is one of my favorite comfort foods. :) They both loved it! :) Kevin is at the Auburn/Arkansas college football game today so we decided to listen to the spooky CD we bought for the party. The girls were so cute dancing... and trying to be scary! :)

things that keep me up at night...

On Sunday nights, I lay in bed & my mind just races with all the things I need to accomplish that week. This past Sunday night I realized that I have a LOT of big things to do in the next 6 weeks! I woke up on Monday morning & quickly wrote them onto sticky notes (so I wouldn't forget them!) I even forgot to put on a note these things... *Finish Beth Moore Bible Study homework. *Read Chapter 6 in Crazy Love by Francis Chan. *Get caught up in my online book club. These are the things that overwhelm me. I put them up where I will see them everyday and this weekend...we are staying home all weekend so I can take some of these sticky notes OFF. I will let you know how that goes! :) Wish me luck! Ha! (I'm gonna need it!)

birthday dinner

We took this little sugar baby out to celebrate her 4th birthday.
She chose "Red Robin." :)
We played Tic Tac Toe while we munched on our "appetizer" fries.
Maddy loved her cheese pizza...
Elly had mac & cheese with cantaloupe and a vanilla milkshake!
She was so happy when they sang to her! Look at that yummy sundae they brought her! :) She was most excited for that cherry on the top!
It didn't stand a chance! Ha! She kept telling us she wanted a princess doll for her birthday. We took her to the Disney store & let her pick out what she wanted because we had no idea what she was talking about. We had a fun time! :)

1st day.

Maddy had her 1st day of 2nd grade on 9.1. She saw this little outfit at SuperTarget & HAD to have it for the 1st day. She was very proud of herself. :) Unfortunately, she woke up with a fever the next day... So, she had her 2nd day this past Monday. :) She is enjoying being a 2nd year. 2nd years are responsible for giving tours when our Director shows prospective families around our campus. She has been taking this responsibility very seriously. :) *I haven't blogged much in August or September because I finally took over my classroom on 8.1 and have just been swamped. I hope things calm down but, being a montessori teacher means there is always something to replace in my classroom (I'm spending a fortune buying little glass snack cups for my class! Thank goodness for a monthly classroom budget!), fix in my classroom, or new staff to keep tabs on. :/
